The Women's Auxiliary to the South Carolina Medical Association Records, 5.2 cubic feet, 1931-1972, documents the activities of the organization. The collection is arranged into three series, the Administrative Records Series, 4.75 cubic feet, 1931-1970, the Publications Series, .25 cubic feet, 1948-1972, and the Scrapbooks Series, .2 cubic feet, circa 1945-1949. The Administrative Records Series, 4.75 cubic feet, 1931-1970, contains records produced by the organization. Records in the series include annual reports, treasurer's reports, membership lists, biographies of SCMA members, and meeting minutes. Historian's reports are also included. The series is arranged chronologically, according to its original structure. The Publications Series, .25 cubic feet, 1948-1972, consists of the newsletter published by the Women's Auxiliary to the South Carolina Medical Association. The newsletter was first published in 1948 as the quarterly Bulletin of the Women's Auxiliary to the South Carolina Medical Association. Beginning in 1958, the newsletter was called the Auxiliary News of the Women's Auxiliary to the South Carolina Medical Association, and was issued six times per year. The series is arranged chronologically, with one volume in each folder. There are gaps in the run (noted in the folder title), and volume 23 has two different issue number twos. The Scrapbooks Series, .2 cubic feet, circa 1945-1949, contains 2 scrapbooks (housed in phase boxes) with news clippings, photographs, convention programs, lapel pins, and programs for events sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary. The red scrapbook includes the program for the centennial meeting of the SCMA, and an issue of the Journal of the South Carolina Medical Association. Printed materials from the collection (other than the newsletter) have been cataloged separately.

The Women's Auxiliary to the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA) was founded in 1923 in response to a movement at the national level by the American Medical Association (AMA).
